Babka Social In Ladino

Babka Social is excited to announce its position as the first public Mastodon instance to provide localization in Ladino, a language deeply rooted in the history of Sephardi Jews.

Ladino, or Judeo-Spanish, is a romance language that originated in what is now modern day Portugal and Spain. After the the expulsion of the Jews 1492, the language spread throughout Europe and North Africa. While Ladino is currently a minority language, there has been a growing movement for its revival within the Jewish community.

Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) is a romance language once used by the Sephardi Jews. It began in what is now modern day Portugal and Spain and after their expulsion in 1492, spread throughout Europe and North Africa. While Ladino is now a minority language, many Jews have worked together to bring about a Ladino revival.

This achievement is made possible through the dedicated efforts of Ausir, a skilled translator and accomplished professor of Ladino at the University of Wroclaw. The introduction of the Ladino interface enables users to interact with the Mastodon web interface and the broader Fediverse.

At Babka, our overarching vision is to cultivate an inclusive Jewish online space that embraces and celebrates the tapestry of Jewish culture and heritage spanning the globe. We take pride in showcasing the diverse, vibrant, and interconnected Jewish communities from around the world and welcome you to join us on our journey!
